recorded with Xero, who did the vocal track and
played the majority of the synth and piano lines. i recorded the drums,
guitar (a synth patch), the second piano, and various synth lines. we
collaborate on programming, sampling, and engineering. if you wondered, the
image that this is linked to on my splash page is the lyrics
to this song in English and Japanese.
[whenever we get around to doing a new die Elektra komplex
page, this probably will no longer reside here.]

these are all live recordings, as i wrote them using a Yamaha electric piano with 2-track record and no sequencing functions.
in the case of the piano/strings songs, the strings were played seperately
from the piano, and "of entropy and apathy"
was the only song which used both tracks. the bass part (e. piano) was
recorded on one track, the strings on another, and a piano part was played on
top of these recorded parts. "prototype six" used
neither of the possible record tracks, it was played live to MD with a
doubled instrument sound.
dedications and gift music: "of entropy and
apathy" was written as a present for Askance, quite some time after i
promised that i'd write something for her, and "yasoukyoku" was a birthday present for kloe-sama. it's still one of my favourite songs.

these songs were originally "i'm in the studio, it's late at night, and i'm
utterly bored"-type experiments, generally because i had some idea in mind
that i was trying to put them to tape for Xero.
the vocoded lyrics to "prototype five" are
fragments of a number of songs by die Elektra
komplex. originally, "feedback and
dismay" was intended to have a vocal track, but it never happened.
"prototype five" initially had a non-vocoded
vocal track, but it was wiped on mixdown, having been the product of
post-Halloween party exhaustion and insanity. [not to mention, my voice was
terrible.]
note that the title to "prototype five" has
nothing to do with "prototype six"...actually, it
was the result of dining with Xero...the restaurant
wall had a blueprint designated only with a rather cryptic "prototype five"
at the bottom, and it stuck in my mind.
also, these songs were intended to be part of an EP that i was toying with
putting together at the time, that had cover art but no final title...i was
joking about calling it feline dreams because i had a lot of fun
cutting up negatives of my sister's cat for the artwork. it didn't happen.
the title here is from a William Gibson short
story of the same title, and seems somehow appropriate.

these tracks were written in Cakewalk for
Windows using a Cheetah MIDI controller and a Korg
Wavestation. originally "morpheus" began
as an experiment in writing "danceable" music, but that just didn't
happen. *laughs* or at least, i don't think that it did. they're listed
above in EP order, even though "thanatos"
was written before "morpheus". also, of
the songs on this page, "thanatos" is the
only song that features guest "musicians"...a friend at school named Leigh
was playing with the pitchbend on hi-hat track, and essentially that song was
written around it.
